A woman’s death in northern Queensland is being looked at by police as a homicide.
About 2.15 pm, in a residence in Mighell, approximately 100 km south of Cairns, a woman was discovered with potentially fatal injuries.
Shortly after, a male was taken into custody.
She passed away at the scene despite the efforts of emergency personnel to treat her.
Before the police came, a man allegedly drove off in a vehicle.
The same vehicle and a truck collided in Sandy Pocket on the Bruce Highway at 430 p.m.
The individual in the truck escaped into the neighbouring region, according to the police, and the driver of the truck was unharmed.
Officers searched a portion of the roadway while they looked for the man, who they said was trying to steal a car from another woman nearby.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the 51-year-old male was located and placed under arrest.
According to the police, the deceased woman and the man who was apprehended knew one another.
While police do their investigation, locals and drivers are still encouraged to stay away from the Bruce Highway region.
Public safety was not threatened in any way, according to a police official.
