A public health alert has been released following the discovery that mushroom gummies have caused at least five hospital admissions in NSW, with some patients experiencing “disturbing hallucinations”.
NSW Health has issued a warning regarding Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies after many patients visited hospitals between April and May reporting unexpected toxicity.
They had eaten the Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane candies from the brand.
A racing heartbeat, nausea, anxiety, unsettling hallucinations, dizziness, and loss of consciousness were among the symptoms that patients reported experiencing.
The medical director of the NSW Poisons Information Centre, Dr. Darren Roberts, advised the public not to use the product.
“Investigations are ongoing as to what these products contain,” he stated.
As part of its investigations, NSW Health is collaborating with other states and territories.
If you own these items, get rid of them properly, keeping them out of reach of kids and animals to prevent inadvertent ingestion.
