Found unconscious inside their Perth house, a man and a woman in their 50s were taken urgently to a hospital in critical condition.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services claim the parents stayed warm in their bedroom using a charcoal fire.
The pair is being treatment for possible carbon monoxide poisoning.
“They have been exposed to possible carbon monoxide poisoning for a long period of time,” firefighters remarked.
Teenagers of the marriage found their parents comatose in their Reddy Court residence.
Their parents were transferred by ambulance to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after triple zero was called.
The incident was deemed so hazardous that before entering the residence paramedics required ventilation.
Closely following the two ambulances to the hospital where their teenage children are currently by their bedside were worried relatives.
Using charcoal as a heating source carries risks, according to DFES, which, in poor ventilation could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
