In relation to the death of a four-year-old kid in north-west Tasmania, a man has been charged with manslaughter.
About 10.15 p.m. on Friday, May 31, the youngster passed away in a Smithton hospital, and hospital personnel informed the police.
Since then, police have been looking into the child’s death.
“Last night a 35-year-old-man from North West Tasmania who was well known to the child was charged with manslaughter in relation to the matter,” police stated in a statement today.
“Charges have also been brought against a 30-year-old North West Tasmanian woman who was well-known to the youngster. “She has been charged with ill-treating a child and has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.”
The man has been detained pending his appearance in court this morning in the Burnie Magistrates Court after hours.
