Police believe a youngster and his father committed a murder-suicide after they were discovered dead in a unit on the Far North Coast of New South Wales.
About 9.45 p.m., police were called to a unit on College Street in East Lismore due to worries for the wellbeing of a man and his kid.
The 38-year-old man’s and the 2-year-old boy’s bodies were discovered after they forced entry into the apartment.
“A more tragic event you wouldn’t come across,” Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell of NSW Police remarked about the father and boy. The boy’s death was announced, and local neighbor Marty Hill called it “horrible”.
“Why do people do these things, poor kid? It’s amazing,” remarked Hill.
Yesterday, the boy’s father had access to him, but when he did not return the boy to his mother, the police were contacted.
“The mother raised concerns with the fact that they were due to hand over the child at 4.30pm,” Thurtell stated.
The boy’s mother, who resides in the Lismore region, is in need of assistance, according to the police.
She had already asked her ex-partner for police protection.
“He was known to police for previous DV matters but not significant issues,” Thurtell stated.
