According to his attorney, a South Australian parent who is accused of using drugs seriously in Bali has expressed regret for his acts.
Last week, Troy Smith of Port Lincoln was vacationing in the popular tourist destination with his wife Tracey when cops broke into his room at a resort in Legian, close to Kuta.
They said they found methamphetamine on him. Troy Smith is anxious and depressed about the long jail sentence that could come with it, according to his attorney, who spoke to Mark News.
“He’s sobbing, sobbing, sobbing.”
“Despite being a man, he is in tears,” his attorney stated in Bali. “He’s very sorry and he’s not meaning to do this, he regret.”
Smith has been detained in Bali for ten days on suspicion of drug possession, a crime for which an Indonesian prison term of up to twelve years is possible.
Officers allegedly found 3.19 grammes of crystal meth in an envelope received from Cairns, leading to the arrest of both him and his spouse.
Smith was the supposed recipient of the mail, which also contained confidential documents, pictures, and lubricant, according to the sender.
Also purportedly discovered in the villa was a bong.Smith admitted to owning the meth, which was hidden inside a toothpaste tube, according to information provided by his attorney earlier this week.
His spouse was freed without being prosecuted.
The consular support is being provided by the Australian government.
When Mark News contacted the Queensland police, they were unable to provide an update on their investigation into the drug sender and whether any arrests had been made.
