A former pupil at the troubled Yarra Valley Grammar in Melbourne has disclosed that, at a school camp, she was sexually raped by a teenage boy.
The woman claimed that the recent reports of schoolboys being found in possession of a list that ranked female classmates from “wifeys” to “unrapable” had caused her trauma.
For legal reasons, the woman who has exclusively told Mark News her story cannot be identified.
The woman claimed that about 12 years ago, when she was on school camp on the Warrandyte River, she was attacked in a sleeping bag while she was 15 years old.
“I was crying, I asked him to stop, I was moving into different positions to try and get him to stop but I didn’t want to wake anyone,” she recalled.
She said that following the purported incident, she dropped out of school and experienced post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and nightmares.
She began to scratch herself while sleeping, to the point where she had to wear cotton gloves to bed.
She claimed, “I tried to end my own life.” In a children’s court, her attacker—a teenage boy at the time—was found guilty of sexual assault.
Yarra Valley Grammar chose not to respond to a request for comment.
“The school is unable to comment on individual past students including the alleged historical matters you have raised from 2012,” the institution stated in a statement.
“Any concerns regarding alleged student misconduct are investigated thoroughly and if proven are dealt with accordingly.”
Mark News is aware of an additional victim complaint in a different instance.
That former student received compensation from Yarra Valley Grammar under the National Redress Scheme for victims of institutional child sexual assault.
There was a letter of apology to that victim.
“I understand how the trauma you experienced altered your life and caused you to still struggle now. The letter said, “I apologize for the effect the abuse has had on you.
The accusations followed a ranking list incident in which 11th graders uploaded a spreadsheet to the Discord instant messaging program that contained images of their female classmates.
The girls were categorized as “wifeys,” “cuties,” “mid,” “object,” “get out,” and lastly “unrapable” in order of ranking.
As a result, two male pupils have been dismissed.
