Following reports that he was seen brandishing a machete at a west Melbourne shopping center last night, a 15-year-old boy has been prosecuted.
At approximately 7.30 p.m., the child started making threats at Taylors Lakes’ Watergardens Shopping Center. According to police, the boy was in possession of the machete at the time.
The child was quickly taken into custody and the machete was seized by security.
Following his arrest, a 15-year-old Kealba boy was accused with making threats to kill and using a weapon with criminal intent.
He was given bond and told to report to a children’s court later.
Only a few hours had passed since another incident at the retail center with a man brandishing a knife.
After reportedly threatening two persons with a knife at approximately 12:50 p.m., a 30-year-old has been charged.
The man allegedly grabbed a knife from a food store, according to detectives, and started pointing it around the Watergardens Shopping Centre in Taylors Lakes at around 1:50 p.m.
According to police, the man threatened and assaulted a 21-year-old man as well as a 20-year-old woman with the knife.
The Sunshine man is now facing charges on two counts of stealing, making threats to kill, unlawful assault, and using a weapon with the intent to commit a crime.
Yesterday, Tony, a witness, told 3AW Afternoons on Nine radio that two males got into a fight just before the cops showed up.
“There was a brawl in the middle of the shopping centre,” stated the man.
“Two people were fighting with each other and it looked like one pulled out a weapon, not sure, it could be a knife.”
Tony reported that a number of people intervened and tackled the males, including several employees of a nearby barbershop.
The 30-year-old male has been placed under arrest pending his future appearance in court.
Police think there was no connection between the two acts.
