The premier has offered his assistance to the police investigation into claims that a state MP from Queensland was drugged and sexually abused over the weekend.
Assistant Minister for Health Brittany Lauga claimed that early on April 28, she went to Yeppoon Police and reported the event.
Lauga says that anything she had taken in without permission had “significantly” affected her.
She said on social media, “I went to the Yeppoon Police Station and Yeppoon Hospital, after being drugged and sexually assaulted.”
Hospital tests verified that I had medications in my body that I had not taken. This stuff had a big effect on me.”
Premier of Queensland Steven Miles declared that the government will help her in whatever way she needed it.
“No one should have to go through what Brittany is going through,” he stated.
All I have on my mind is Brittany and her health.
“I’ve told Brittany that we’re here to support her, whatever she needs.”
Lauga stated that additional women in Yeppoon, which is around 38 kilometers northeast of Rockhampton, had gotten in touch with her and suggested that they had also been drugged.
“This could have happened to anyone and tragically, it does happen to many of us,” Lauga stated.
“I have had multiple women contact me who have experienced the same thing in our town.”It’s not acceptable.
“We should be able to enjoy socialising in our town without the risk of being drugged or assaulted.”
Lauga wrote in the post that she needed time to “physically and emotionally heal” and asked for solitude.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has offered me assistance. I sincerely appreciate your nice words, deeds, and correspondence.
“If you have any information that may assist the investigation, please tell the police.”
“Sexual assault complaint relating to an incident in Yeppoon” is the subject of an investigation, according to the Queensland Police Service.
“This is a topic that is still being investigated.
No other comments will be made at this time, as is customary in investigations of this kind.”
Meaghan Scanlon, the housing minister for Queensland, described the claims as alarming.
“I’ve read Brittany’s statement and it’s really difficult reading.”
