As part of the counterterrorism operation in response to the stabbing of a bishop at a Sydney church, a sixth adolescent has been charged.
Following his detention on Wednesday, police charged a 15-year-old kid with planning to carry out a terrorist attack today.
Following the identification of a “number of associates” of a 16-year-old kid who is suspected of stabbing Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, NSW Police and the AFP this week detained seven adolescents, ages 14 to 17.
According to police, each one of them followed a “religiously motivated violent extremist ideology”.
In a statement, NSW Police stated that “a number of items were seized as a result of yesterday’s activity, including a significant amount of electronic material.”
Bail to appear in a children’s court tomorrow was denied to the 15-year-old who was charged today.
Six of the seven teens who were taken into custody during the joint operation face various charges.
Today, the seventh was freed from detention without facing any accusations.
The 16-year-old who is accused of stabbing Emmanuel is still in court after being charged.
A collaborative counterterrorism team consisting of the Australian Federal Police, the NSW Crime Commission, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, and members of the AFP is now conducting investigations.
