Steve Gollschewski, the newly appointed police commissioner for Queensland, wants the people living there to feel protected.
Following the resignation of Katarina Carroll, the state’s most seasoned senior police officer was formally appointed to the position this morning.
Gollschewski oversaw hotel quarantine supervision, airport security, and roadside border security during the COVID-19 epidemic in the past.
With more than ten years of experience in the position and over forty years as a police officer, Gollschewski was the most seasoned deputy commissioner in the state.
Being the son of a police officer and an active member of the force, the new commissioner claimed that policing “is in my blood”.
“Policing has been part of my life,” he stated.
“I’ve been with the police department for 44 years; my brother was also a police officer, and my father was a police officer before I was even born.
“The QPS is a developing organisation that faces a wide range of new problems in the future, but because of how dedicated our staff is, we will keep building on our successes and providing top-notch services.
“Our primary focus is about ensuring the community is safe and feels safe while also making sure our workforce is supported and feels supported.”
