NSW Police conducted raids in Sydney’s inner-west yesterday as part of a crackdown on alleged members of organized crime networks.
During raids in Drummoyne’s St Georges Crescent, officers found $30,000 in cash as part of two compliance checks for the Firearm Prohibition order on Thursday.
Several nearby streets were closed while the raids were carried out by the authorities between 6.30 and 8.30 p.m.
The searches were initiated by criminal network members stopping and harassing residents as they were strolling through Drummoyne, said to Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis, Commander of the Raptor Squad.
“This is just one ongoing strategy that Raptor squad use to target OCN and their associates… we won’t allow criminal networks in community,” he stated.
“Our job isn’t just reacting to crime after it happens but stopping it from happening before it has a chance to.”
While police spoke with over 100 neighbors, they also searched seven individuals and five vehicles.
“We achieve that by conducting proactive operations like this one, which concentrate on vehicle searches, firearm compliance, and direct communication with locals.
People shouldn’t have to fear for their lives simply because of where they live.
“A lockdown like this takes a double-barrelled approach; to both rattle the OCN associates, and to reassure the community we are listening, and we are there for them.
” The State Intelligence Command, the Traffic & Highway Patrol, the Aviation Command, the Marine Area Command, and the Dog Squad were among the police units that took part in the raids.
