A man will stay in detention on murder charges following the discovery of a woman’s body in an inner-Brisbane flat.
Following the discovery of a 66-year-old West Australian woman’s death in a Brunswick Street apartment in Fortitude Valley, police made an arrest of 42-year-old Steven Rhain Pinker at approximately 1pm on Tuesday.
Because the deceased woman was Pinker’s relative, he was charged with one count of murder in connection with domestic abuse.
When the matter was initially heard on Wednesday in Brisbane Magistrates Court, the Fortitude Valley man was excused from attendance.
Pinker’s attorney stated that the court would decide when the case will be brought up for a committal mention.
The attorney stated, “Obviously, there’s no application for bail given the nature of the charges.”
In Queensland, bail for a murder charge can only be granted by the Supreme Court.
Lauren Archer, the police prosecutor, requested a three- or four-week adjournment and stated she would begin work on a brief of evidence.
Pinker was placed under arrest and the case was postponed to April 29 by Magistrate Colin Strofield.
At the following court date, Pinker was also released from making an in-person appearance.
