An 81-year-old man was allegedly fatally stabbed inside his north Perth house yesterday, and a 19-year-old male was brought before the court on murder charges.
When they were reportedly attacked, Colin Norton and his 75-year-old wife Maggie were at their ten-year residence on Mattison Way in Greenwood.
Pasifique Zawadi Niyonyishi allegedly severely abused the two before fleeing the scene, according to the police.
Mr. Norton passed away from severe head injuries along with other wounds, and his wife was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she was kept in a stable state until tonight.
It’s believed that while trying to step in, the family dog sustained injuries as well. It was brought to an emergency veterinarian, where it is anticipated to fully recover.
Niyonyishi was detained in Kingsley and is accused of homicide and attempting to kill someone illegally.
This morning, the 19-year-old showed up in Joondalup Magistrates court.
The adolescent, speaking for himself, accepted the allegations against him but declined to request bail.
Authorities think that another male resident of the same house knows the man.
Neighbors expressed their dismay at the state of affairs today.
“We’ve all lost people, but to lose your life partner in such a way – it’s all shades of wrong,” added James.
“They’re such a nice couple and they do so many things for us.”
Next month, Niyonyishi will appear in court again.
