Following an alleged fatal assault on a security officer outside a Sutherland pub early this morning, a man has been charged.
Around two in the morning today, a security man was attacked, and police were summoned to the Royal Hotel Sutherland on East Parade in Sutherland. They discovered the security guard unconscious.
Officers were informed that after being asked to leave the hotel, a guest allegedly hit him in the head.
The security guy was treated by paramedics after police gave him CPR, but he passed away at the spot.
Although his exact identity is unknown, the man is thought to be in his 30s.
Following the establishment of a crime scene and the start of an investigation, a 31-year-old male was taken into custody.
He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow. He has now been accused of assault resulting in death.
The Royal Hotel Sutherland declared that it was “deeply saddened” by what had apparently happened early on in the morning.
“The entire management and staff of the hotel extend our heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with the family during this difficult time,” added the statement.
