A 43-year-old male and a 48-year-old woman are accused of stealing from hospital employees, guests, and patients in Western Australia, leading to 83 charges against them.
According to police, on January 14, the couple allegedly took earrings, a necklace, and a pocketbook that contained cash and a debit card from an 82-year-old patient.
Western Australia Police said in a statement that “the offenders then used the victim’s debit card in 81 alleged separate fraudulent transactions in various stores.”
Additionally, according to police, the two defendants traveled to a hospital in Nedlands, where they allegedly stole a staff member’s luggage after breaking into a restricted area that could only be accessed with a swipe card.
“They allegedly used the victim’s bank card in seven separate fraudulent transactions at various stores,” according to police.
“It will also be alleged the two accused persons were involved in a number of other stealing incidents from hospitals and vehicles, resulting in further fraudulent transactions being done.”
When police pulled down a car in East Perth, they detained the couple, confiscated their belongings, and hauled them into custody.
Perth Magistrates Court is scheduled to hear the couple’s case today.
