Following an altercation on Friday night on the Princes Street Bridge in Melbourne’s CBD, a man has been charged.
This afternoon, two counts of common law assault, two counts of assaulting a protective services officer, two counts of threatening to assault a protective services officer, and reckless conduct endangering person were brought against the 20-year-old Pakenham resident.
Following a bedside hearing, he was remanded to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court with an appearance scheduled for May 7.
The guy was shot by a protective services officer after he allegedly threatened another PSO, according to the police, who made the accusations.
Just after 530 p.m. on Friday, police and PSOs were called to the Princes Street Bridge in response to an unconnected incident.
A man is supposed to have approached multiple PSOs with shattered glass and verbally threatened one of them.
Police claimed pepper spray was used by two, but it didn’t seem to have any effect.
After that, one of the officers fired his gun, striking the victim once.
He suffered non-life-threatening wounds and was brought to the hospital.
The event was unrelated to terrorism, according to the police.
As is customary when a firearm is used, the event was looked into by armed crime squad detectives under the supervision of Professional Standards Command.
