A high-speed police chase and the purported theft of three luxury cars were part of a crime spree that took place around New South Wales, and seven adolescents were taken into custody.
Around 2.30 am, police made an effort to stop a black Mercedes that they believed to be stolen on the NSW Central Coast.
After several hours, the 120-kilometer chase came to an end near Toongabbie on the Great Western Highway.
Inside the purportedly stolen luxury car, at least five teenagers were discovered packed tightly.
Witness Grant Plummer described it as “about three or four times they raced up and down the island here.”
“Excessive speed – no doubt in the world.”
Eight teenagers allegedly showed up at St. Huberts Island on the Central Coast in two stolen cars, according to the police.
They are charged with abandoning them and then robbing three more cars, a Mercedes, a BMW X5, and a Porsche, as part of a criminal spree that included allegedly breaking into houses brandishing big knives.
Nevertheless, a police cruiser blocked the youths’ path as they attempted to leave one of the houses.
“I think they were trying to find another way out – there isn’t,” stated Plummer.
Two teenagers were taken into custody by the police after the car allegedly crashed into their vehicle.
Five teenagers allegedly piled into another car and drove off in the direction of Sydney.
A police pursuit that had reached speeds of up to 160 km/h was soon called off.
After being brought to a Gosford police station, the teenagers are helping investigators with their inquiries there.
Later, the car was seen travelling along the M1 towards Sydney. It kept going until around 4 a.m., when it stopped on the Great Western Highway close to Toongabbie Road.
Four of the seven youths who were detained were allegedly on bail for similar crimes, according to the police.
Eight people are still being sought by police; they are thought to have left the scene.
“I know of one offender that fled from the BMW as we say we appeal for any,” Acting Inspector Evan Davies of the Brisbane Water Police District said.
