After scores of black-clad, elaborately camouflaged men—among them a neo-Nazi leader—sprang a train in northern Sydney, six persons were taken into custody.
Carrying shields and hiding their faces, the party boarded the train at Artarmon.
When the train reached North Sydney, police stopped it and asked onlookers to disperse while they spoke to the group, which included infamous Melbourne-based neo-Nazi group leader Thomas Sewell.
“On arrival, members of the public were directed to leave the train while officers boarded and contained the group off approximately 61 to a few carriages,” police stated.
“The group carried a flag and shields among other equipment, and all of them had their faces covered.
“Police took possession of the objects.
“During the operation, police removed members of the group individually to collect their details and issue a move-on order.”
Police issued numerous violation notices and six of the 61 individuals were placed under arrest.
“Six people were arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station, where they are assisting police with inquiries,” according to police.
“For their offensive attitude, 55 more males received Rail Infringement Notices.
“Two men have since been released and issued infringement notices for offensive behaviour.”
Buses were rerouted away from the station during the operation. At the station, some train services came to an end.
A passenger called Jason told 2GB Drive that he “knew something was wrong” when his train began to slow down after leaving Wollstonecraft.
“I thought this isn’t normal, is this train terminating?” he replied.
He inquired about the train’s impending termination by contacting Sydney Trains on X.
“They wrote back and said ‘yes, this is terminating due to a police operation’,” he explained.
“This train is terminating, please get off the train,” they had just said to the passengers.
“Everyone simply got off and crossed to the subsequent station to board the subsequent train.
“I could see down the other end of the platform there were police down there with these guys.”
