A plane crash south-west of Sydney claimed the life of a young pilot.
About 3.15 p.m., the Cessna 172, belonging to a nearby flying school, crashed in a Brownlow Hill farm, three kilometres from Camden Airport, where it had taken off.
According to 9News, the pilot asked to land the aircraft at approximately 1500 feet, three minutes into the trip.
It is thought that soon after, the pilot lost communication with the control tower.
When a second pilot inquired about the position of the Cessna 172 in order to land at Camden Airport, the control tower realised it was unaware of the aircraft’s location and triggered an alarm.
The instant a pilot flying overhead noticed the wreck, it was captured on audio from air traffic control.
The pilot is heard stating, “I think we’ve got an aeroplane on the ground here… it doesn’t look good.”
“Mate, it doesn’t even look like an aeroplane, unfortunately.”
According to authorities, the lone passenger in the aircraft, a 16-year-old kid, and the pilot passed tragically on the spot.
That day, the plane had already made two trips.
Witnesses claimed that a bystander arrived on the site first, then law enforcement, paramedics, firefighters, and rescue personnel.
The boy’s identity is unknown.
A crime scene was set up by the police, and it will be forensically investigated.
After being informed, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau launched an investigation into the collision.
