Daniel Andrews, the former premier of Victoria, has established two firms, indicating his future plans beyond politics.
According to The Age This week, Andrews founded Wedgetail Partners Pty Ltd and Glencairn Street Pty Ltd, serving as their only secretary and director.
According to documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, Andrews has a shareholder who has made investments with Wedgetail Partners. He owns all of Glencairn Street’s shares.
Following nine years as premier, Andrews declared in September of last year that he was leaving politics.
After serving as a parliamentary secretary in 2002, Andrews became a minister at the age of 34 after winning an election. He took on the ministries of consumer affairs and gaming in addition to helping the premier with multicultural affairs.
Labour was forced back into opposition after a massive loss to John Brumby in the 2010 election, but Andrews was given the chance to take the helm of the state party.
With seven extra seats won in 2014, Andrews easily became the premier and started the second-longest tenure in Victoria’s top position.
Labour gained overwhelming control of parliament in 2018 thanks to a significant eight-seat swing, and Andrews’ second term was marred by two emergencies: the COVID-19 emergency and the Black Summer bushfires.
