Wildfires that are out of control are still destroying homes in the northeast of Perth; at least one house has been destroyed.
As firefighters arrived to put out the fire today, residents were forced to evacuate with whatever belongings they could.
They were anticipating a difficult night ahead as they attacked the massive fire front from above and below.
About 80 kilometers from Perth, in Bindoon, a house was completely destroyed by fire, and several nearby buildings were under danger.
As they fled, locals packed everything and their pets into automobiles.
“We’ve shut everything up, we’ve locked it all up and hopefully they fight the fire and it doesn’t get there but the embers and the smoke’s all over the back yard,” a nearby resident stated.
We saw a different resident taking her horses to safety.
“It seemed quite close, it was almost at the neighbours,” she stated.
Tonight, the fire was being fought by more than 200 firefighters.
The Department of Fire and Emergency was getting ready for a storm that might bring lightning after the day’s high winds caused flames to flare up.
Parts of Bindoon, Lennard Brook, Mooliabeenee, and Moondah in the shires of Chittering and Gingin were under an emergency alert earlier today.
It was advised for residents living in warning zones to make fire plans or to evacuate right away.
The temperature today presented another difficulty for firefighters responding to the fire, which started yesterday.
Perth saw its highest temperature of over 36 degrees for the third day in a row above 35.
