An 80-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault following reports that he molested an elderly woman at a north-west Sydney assisted living home.
Yesterday, after receiving a report at the Galston aged care facility, police went to a nearby Asquith residence and took the guy into custody.
The 87-year-old woman was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital by paramedics who treated her on the spot.
She did not sustain any significant injuries.
According to the police, the man was “known to visit the facility” and had allegedly gone into the woman’s room twice before abusing her sexually.
The elderly care facility was transformed into a crime scene.
At 7:40 p.m., police took the man into custody at the Asquith residence.
He was brought to the Hornsby police station where he was accused of both aggravated sexual touching and aggravated sexual assault on a victim who had cognitive impairment.
He was also accused of improperly storing a handgun.
Bail was denied to the individual so he could not attend court today.
The aged care facility’s operator, RSL LifeCare, stated that the accused victim was receiving care.
“RSL LifeCare is working closely with NSW Police following an alleged serious incident involving a registered visitor and one of the residents at our residential care home in Galston,” a spokesman stated.
“The resident has received support, and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has been notified of the event.
“As the matter is subject to a criminal investigation, we are not able to provide any further comment.”
