A woman is reportedly being attacked by a man in the emergency room of a Sydney hospital, and she is battling for her life.
When police arrived at Bankstown Hospital, they were informed that a patient had taken hold of two women, ages 63 and 58, before they had reportedly been abused.
The woman, eighty, was then allegedly accosted by the male, who then punched her.
“It’s further alleged the man then choked the woman and hit her head against the wall, causing her to lose consciousness.,” according to NSW Police.
Workers at the hospital stepped in and assisted the women.
After receiving the all-clear from the hospital, the man was escorted to the Bankstown Police Station and began helping the officers with their investigations.
The elderly patient is still in critical condition at the hospital.
According to a spokesman for Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, three more injured individuals have been released.
“Our social workers are providing support to the patient’s family.”
The patients received quick medical attention and support, according to the spokeswoman.
“Workers who witnessed the incident were offered counseling and support, and no staff members were hurt.
“The hospital will keep an eye on these employees and offer continuing assistance as required.
“The ED is still open to the public, and patient treatment or other services have not been affected.
“Police were called right away and are looking into the matter.
“The hospital is assisting the police inquiries and cannot make any further comment.”
