A mother-of-two and cycling champion from Adelaide passed away after being struck by a car that was allegedly driven by her husband.
Melissa Dennis, 32, was struck by a car last night in the northern part of Medindie. After being taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital, she passed away.
Rohan Dennis, her spouse, was purportedly operating the vehicle.
Following his arrest, the 33-year-old former professional cyclist was accused with endangering life, driving carelessly, and causing death via reckless driving.
Both of them recently gave up playing sports.
Earlier this year, Mr. Dennis triumphed in the Tour Down Under’s second stage.
The couple, along with their two young children, recently moved into their Avenel Gardens Road house a week ago, according to the Dennises’ neighbour.
Ayas Aslam, a neighbour, described it as “tragic”.
This is a scene we have never seen on this street. “Seeing it was pretty horrifying,” he remarked.
Locals claimed that since the terrible death of Dr. Michael Yung in the nearby area, they had increased their level of caution and added extra security to their houses.
What occurred to Ms. Dennis was described as “absolutely devastating” in tributes posted online.
One commenter remarked, “I feel bad for the kids, and Melissa, rest in peace.”
Granting bail, Mr. Dennis is scheduled to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates court on March 13.
