A lady appeared in court after it was claimed that she broke into residences in western Sydney that had mailboxes while the residents were on vacation for the holiday season.
In November of this year, police started looking into allegations of break-ins in the Homebush neighbourhood.
Two persons are accused of breaking into mailboxes of vacant houses on Homebush’s Parramatta Road in order to take mail or extra keys that would allow them entry.
At a residence on Homebush’s Parramatta Road, a 25-year-old woman was taken into custody today.
“She was taken to Auburn Police Station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug, larceny, goods suspected stolen in/on premises, and destroy or damage property,” according to police.
She appeared in court today after being denied bail.
Before departing on a vacation, Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith advised individuals to check their mailboxes and take out any extra keys.
“During the Christmas and the end of year period, empty mailboxes and houses often become a target of theft,” he stated.
“We advise anyone planning a holiday trip to make sure they securely lock their home and mailbox, and to empty it before departing.
“Attaching a ‘No junk mail’ sticker on mail box could be a good option.”
