A number of youngsters are still in critical condition at the hospital following a horrific incident in the NSW Central Tablelands that claimed the lives of two fathers from Sydney.
On their way to visit their eldest daughter in Dubbo, David Drozd, his wife Nicole and five of their nine children were travelling in a Kia Carnival when it collided head-on with a D-Max pickup pulling a dirt bike trailer on the Great Western Highway close to Wallerawang.
The father, 49, and the D-Max’s driver, Narellan Vale resident Jason McMahon, 43, both perished.
McMahon had been riding trail bikes at Sunny Corner all day before the tragedy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the communities that those individuals belong to,” stated Bernard Carlon, the chief of the Transport for NSW Centre for Road Safety.
Connor, McMahon’s 19-year-old son, said he lost the guy he had always aspired to be.
“He was the sort of person to just drop everything to go help someone,” stated the man.
“I’m going to miss my dad every minute.”He was not present when I began a family of my own.”
Declan Jones, a family friend and passenger of McMahon, aged 19, was among the fifteen injured individuals who were hurt in the collision involving five various automobiles.
Five children, including two of Drozd’s daughters who are in a critical and dangerous condition, were still being treated at the Westmead hospital today.
“We’re calling on the community to, particularly in this new year’s period, to stop and think about what they do to prepare on their journey,” Carlon stated.
There are often accidents on the Mount Lambie roadway.
Two persons were killed in a truck and sedan collision in 2021, while another man died in 2018 when a truck struck his ute.
In an attempt to determine why McMahon’s ute crossed the road onto the wrong side, police are looking into a number of ideas, including speed, a medical emergency, and maybe a microsleep following a strenuous riding day.
McMahon was a Western Sydney-based traffic safety expert with extensive experience.
Next year, he was going to become a grandfather.
He was a loving father of nine children and a devout Christian, according to his family.
