The hunt for a 19-year-old swimmer who vanished after being carried away by a rip on the South Coast of New South Wales has been cancelled.
On Boxing Day afternoon, Khattab Abu Haish, of Ashfield, Sydney, was engulfed in a rip in front of his family at Congo Beach, which is close to Moruya in the southern part of the state.
The adolescent got caught in a rip and thrown out to sea, but he saved a family member who was suffering in the surf, according to information provided to police.
Over the previous two days, the missing man has been the target of searches by emergency services, police, PolAir, Marine Area Command, Surf Lifesavers, and the Westpac rescue helicopter.
However, the search has since been cancelled.”Despite an extensive search of the water and surrounding land for the past two days, the 19-year-old man from Sydney has not been located, and the search was suspended at midday today,” police stated in a statement.
In the state, there have been several drownings during the holiday season.
