After shooting into a north Melbourne home and trying to break in while a family was inside, two gunmen are now at large.
At approximately 11 p.m. yesterday, two thugs, both armed with weapons, approached the Major Road home containing three family members.
Before one of the males fired twice at the front door, according to the police, there was an argument.
His partner made an unsuccessful attempt to break in.
“It’s the last thing you would expect this time of year,” a resident stated.
After making their getaway in the pilfered white Suzuki, the two set it on fire and dumped it four kilometres away on Broadmeadows’ Fashion Parade.
One witness recalled, “I was outside when the entire car just blew up.”
“Massive flames and the whole car was engulfed in flames as though it had fuel put through the car.”
Panicked residents awakened up to the noise.
Police are examining the shooting as a targeted attack even though it’s unclear what started it.
The day was spent by armed crime squad detectives looking for signs that would identify the men in charge. There have been no takedowns.
