A woman is dead and a second woman has been hospitalised after being hit by a car in Melbourne’s east.
Police said the two women, aged 92 and 73, were crossing the road at Hopetoun Parade in Box Hill when they were struck just after 9am.
The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man from Doncaster East, stopped at the scene.
Police said the pedestrians were struck as they crossed the road near Box Hill Centro but it’s unknown how the incident unfolded.
Both women were taken to hospital.
One woman, a 92-year-old from Mount Waverley died in hospital this morning, while the second woman, a 73-year-old from Burwood was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the car was uninjured and is being questioned by police.
Meanwhile, in the state’s north, police have shut down a major regional road after one man was killed and a second seriously injured in a serious collision.
Police said a car collided with a truck at the intersection of Sixteenth Street and Deakin Avenue in Mildura, around 12.45pm today.
A male passenger, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene, while the driver of the car is currently in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two other passengers were also taken to hospital. The male driver of the truck was not injured and stopped at the scene.
