A 10-year-old girl who was struck by lightning and was left battling for her life was among the two persons injured by lightning as strong storms devastated Queensland’s southeast.
Around 2:30 PM today, paramedics were dispatched to a private residence located on Clarke’s Road in Beerwah, in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.
After hearing a huge thunderclap, neighbors reported seeing emergency personnel, including critical care paramedics, round their street.
The girl was in critical condition when she was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
A second person was struck by lightning further south later in the day.
The 60-year-old guy was struck near Biggera Waters on the northern Gold Coast; his status is stable.
When emergency personnel came, the man was reportedly conscious and talking.
The entire region is still severely damaged by storms.
On Brisbane’s south side, the system released around six minutes of wrath, suburb after suburb.
A B-Double truck was flipped and caravans were sent sliding by the weather system.
About 20,000 homes were left without power while Energex workers attempted to reconnect residences damaged by the storm from previous night.
Doonan and Yandina, located in the northern hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, are among the most severely impacted districts.
During the brief storm wave, four-centimeter hailstones dropped near Beaudesert, west of the Gold Coast.
Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h were recorded at Amberley, which is southwest of Brisbane.
However, locals claimed that compared to previous night, the storm’s effects were not as bad.
“The wind went crazy, and it just really started to rain,” stated Caleb Woolridge, general manager of the Wilson Timbers.
