Following an attack during a house invasion early yesterday morning, a well-known pediatrician in Adelaide passed away in the hospital.
Leading physician Michael Yung of Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital was reportedly attacked by trespassers at approximately 4.20 a.m. yesterday in his opulent home on James Street in Gilberton.
This evening, South Australia Police revealed that Yung, who was seriously injured in the incident, passed away at Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Police had reported that he was in “extremely critical” condition earlier this afternoon. Since the attack, no one has been taken into custody.
According to police, “detectives have identified a black BMW sedan as being in James Street shortly after 12.20am” .
According to a police statement, “the BMW crashed on Seaview Road at Tennyson and five suspects ran from the area.”
“The suspects then allegedly stole a Mazda from West Lakes, this vehicle was recovered at Davoren Park on December 11.”
Detective Superintendent Des Bray had earlier stated that a group that had been observed attempting to steal cars in the neighborhood prior to the attack was thought to have targeted the 61-year-old’s residence.
Bray claimed that the group was observed attempting to steal cars and testing doors on houses on the block.
He stated that although detectives had been looking into up to fifteen instances of persons trying to break into or steal automobiles over the previous several days, they were now concentrating on the attack on Yung.
Gilberton, Walkerville, Medindie, Henley Beach, and other nearby suburbs are said to be the locations of the crimes.
“This crime has all the resources of a major crime,” Bray declared this afternoon.
“We’re following several fruitful avenues of investigation, and I’m really pleased with the probe’s current state of affairs.
“I hope that we can get an outcome for the family in this matter but that doesn’t take away the terrible suffering that the family are experiencing at the moment and the injuries to Michael.”
He added that police knew who was most likely to be the culprit. No charges have been filed by the police yet.
“It’s a very fluid group, people come into the group, people come out, people do things on their own.”However, those individuals, as well as their acquaintances, are what we are examining.”
According to SA Police Minister Joe Szakacs, Yuan was “much loved” and appreciated for the work he accomplished.
“This is a horrible, horrible set of circumstances and I’m heartened to see the outpouring of support that has been offered at this really troubling and difficult time.” Szakacs stated there was no threat to the neighborhood.
