The death of a man who was taken from a well-known Sunshine Coast river is being investigated by police as suspicious.
On November 30, at around 8.15 a.m., a member of the public discovered the man beside the Maroochy River, close to the Talep Bridge.
Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Doogue, a detective, informed reporters today that police could not verify his identity.
Today, divers started looking for any information that could help identify the man in the Maroochy River.
According to Doogue, there were no visible wounds on his corpse, and a post-mortem examination revealed no natural causes of death.
He added the body might have fallen into the river from “as far west” as Chambers Island or “as far east” as Petrie Creek.
“We don’t know the timeline of events that occurred prior to the man ending up in the water,” Doogue stated.
“Investigators believe the body may have been in the water three to five days prior to being discovered.”
Doogue characterized the man as being of a substantial frame, 189 cm tall, and with receding hair that was reddish-brown in color.
He was found with green compression socks on both knees, shorts, and a black t-shirt on.
“He had no tattoos or identifying descriptive marks on his body however he did have evidence of a surgical operation on his right knee,” according to him.
Until more evidence suggests otherwise, police will continue to investigate the death as suspicious.
