A young mother and her infant managed to avoid a head-on collision while being pursued by police for allegedly using a machete to harm another lady.
Yesterday afternoon, a white Commodore struck a Mazda CX3 while being pursued by police for allegedly driving on the incorrect side of James Street in Guildford.
The Holden then clips a Mitsubishi Outlander before slamming into a Hyundai Tucson, according to CCTV footage.
Next, the suspected driver, a 22-year-old woman, and Brandon Lee Kelly were apprehended by the police.
“She went on the wrong side of the road, they had a head-on crash with a lady in her 20s with an eight-week-old baby in the car,” said Commissioner Blanch.
“It’s a high-risk manoeuvre but I support the officers who’ve made that decision but also our thoughts and hearts go out to the innocent motorist who was caught up in it.”
Police claimed to have discovered methamphetamine in the perpetrator’s vehicle.
Three of the 31-year-old woman’s younger siblings in the Mitsubishi weren’t hurt.
The Hyundai’s driver, 35, and the infant, 8 weeks old, were rushed to the hospital.
The infant was returned home with family after the mother spent the night in the hospital.
The man was being sought by police after it was reported that, shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, he broke into a Butler home and struck a 30-year-old lady in the back of the head with a machete.
The woman suffered cuts and bleeding to the back of her head as a result of the incident.
Kelly was the target of a two-month search by police following an alleged car theft in Hammond Park.
With multiple fractured bones, Kelly and the suspected driver were being treated at a hospital under police guard.
In addition to possessing a forbidden narcotic, he is accused of committing multiple offenses such as illegal wounding, aggravated home burglary, and bond violation.
Seven charges have been brought against the driver, including failure to post bail, driving while suspended, and reckless driving that results in great bodily damage.
