According to recent figures, Queenslanders have spent an astounding $95 million in fines for seatbelt and cell phone violations during the last ten months.
From January to October of this year, a total of 55,662 drivers were caught using their phones while operating a vehicle.
An additional 26,366 Queenslanders were apprehended for failing to use seatbelts or for doing so improperly, such as putting them under their arms.
While the passenger was operating the moving vehicle, one driver was observed taking his or her hands off the wheel.
Penalties for both offenses included a $1161 fine and four demerit points. This year, 245 people have died while traveling throughout the state.
