While combating a fire close to a northern NSW nature reserve, a volunteer firefighter lost their life.
The man was struck by a falling tree, according to the Rural Fire Service, which verified the fatality on Thursday night.
It stated that he was engaged in work on the Hudson fire close to Walgett, which is situated approximately 500 miles west of Coffs Harbour and 100 kilometres south of the Queensland border. Commissioner Rob Rogers honoured the individual.
“This man gave his everything in this sacrifice. He said in a statement, “His sad and premature passing serves as a sobering reminder of the risks that our firefighters endure.
“At this tragic time, our sympathies are with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters. We are providing his family and other brigade members with all support possible.”
The firefighter was struck, and his coworkers treated him with first aid until an ambulance could come.
He died after being taken to Lighting Ridge for emergency care.
As of Thursday night, residents of Glengarry were under a watch and act alert due to the Hudson fire, which is burning close to the Narran Lake Nature Reserve.
Firefighters reported that the north-west edge of the village was seeing more flames and issued a warning that strong southerlies could drive the fire near Garwin.
Water bombers and firefighters were trying to contain it. By Thursday night at ten o’clock, the winds were predicted to subside.
