A man appeared in court after it was claimed that he used a gun to hold up a tugboat before colliding with a police boat.
The 48-year-old is suspected of operating a dinghy yesterday off Kwinana Beach.
He allegedly brandished a gun, made a threat to the tugboat crew, and then smashed into a police boat, sending his dinghy flying.
After a search involving the Water Police, Mandurah Detectives, and officers from the Air Wing, he was taken into custody approximately sixty minutes later.
The man was accused of unlawful act or omission with intent to harm after his dinghy was seized.
Inspector Geoff DeSanges stated, “This was a fairly dynamic and confronting incident, thankfully no one was hurt.”
“The firearm mentioned in the initial reports to police has not been recovered – police divers conduct searches in Kwinana area and surrounding areas.”
The man was given bail to appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court in December.
