In Queensland, a truck overturned and a bull charged and trampled on a police officer.
While responding to a cattle truck rollover in Morven, close to Charleville, the policeman was attacked by a loose bull that pushed him against a bullbar, knocked him to the ground, and then stepped on him.
The entire incident was captured on dramatic dashcam video.
According to Queensland Police, the officer was wearing an integrated load-bearing vest (ILBV) for protection and was not seriously hurt.
The officer stated in a statement, “Obviously the policing job is pretty diverse – you never know what you’re going to get on a day-to-day basis.”
However, that caught me off guard, and to be honest, it was a bit shocking.
“I don’t want to think about what might have happened had I not been wearing that vest, but let’s just say I’m pretty glad I had it on.”It’s undoubtedly done the job.”
An ILBV has been issued to over 3000 officers, and another 6000 are scheduled to receive one.
The vest’s cutting-edge protective design combines textiles with ballistic and edged weapon technology.
Acting Senior Sergeant Lisle Manthey of Organizational Capability Command stated, “The officer charged by the bull was able to walk away from this incident because of the impeccable safety and capability of this vest.”
“Without it, the officer might have sustained serious or even fatal injuries.
“No matter what an officer may be struck with – large or small – the vest will distribute the impact of the force or trauma, potentially avoiding lethal consequences for the officer.”
