Before his spectacular arrest, a guy on the Gold Coast is said to have pointed a loaded pistol at an officer.
Police were contacted this morning at 6:20 a.m. for a welfare check following reports of a man who appeared to be slumped in the Karen Avenue parking lot at Mermaid Waters.
The man allegedly started flailing the gun around and grabbed a female police officer while the officers were talking to him.
The man is shown in a dramatic video threatening to “get on the ground now” and “drop your gun” as he is accused of pointing the gun at the female officer.
“As police were speaking to the man in question, he grabbed one of the officers and brandished a firearm and threatened both of the officers,” Inspector Kayleen James stated. The suspect allegedly tried to enter several automobiles before approaching a taxi when the officer released him or let go of him.
Chris, a local mechanic, claimed he was likewise singled out and attempted to escape in his vehicle.
“I decide to try to lock in my car and he turned around opened my door, jumped in the passenger seat and pointed a gun in my seat and says ‘drive, drive’,” he said.
Packo, a different witness, claimed to have witnessed Chris being targeted before the two guys attempted to subdue him. Before being taken into custody with his pants about his ankles, the man allegedly tried to halt more cars, including a taxi, before taking off down the street once more, according to the police.
“Let me start by saying that I’m really proud of what the cops did today. It was a pretty confronting circumstance, and they are seasoned and well-trained,” James remarked. James stated she could “categorically” affirm no rounds were fired by police, even though initial reports suggested a shot had been fired. She also understood that the individual had not fired any shots.
She did, however, add that the man’s supposed handgun was loaded.
According to James, the officer was sent to the hospital in a stable condition for “precautionary” treatment while the suspect was under police custody. James said that the cops knew the individual who was being held. She claimed that several witnesses were being contacted by police, and she begged any further witnesses to come forward.
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, they were summoned to a scene on the Gold Coast Highway, which leads to Karen Avenue, at approximately 7 a.m. (8 a.m. AEDT), in response to a police encounter. They attended to three patients, and one woman was admitted to the hospital for additional evaluation while her status remained stable.
