Tomorrow, a 33-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court on a charge of killing 53-year-old David Collison in the Central West region of New South Wales.
According to police, Collison was brutally killed “in cold blood” on September 25 following a possible drug-related argument, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty informed the media this afternoon.
Following an October police search of a 2000-acre property north of Mudgee, a 33-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with Collison’s murder yesterday.
“Human-like” remains were found in a burned-out tree during the hunt.
Before Collison was reportedly shot and died on September 25, police said that he had been to the suspect’s property. They believe the altercation was over drugs between two men who knew each other well.
Then, according to the police, his remains were disposed of on the land. A few weeks later, on October 15, Collison was reported missing to the Cumberland Police Department.
After a three-day search of the large rural property, police reported finding several bones in a burned-out tree trunk that were thought to be human.
According to the police, David Collison’s remains had not yet been positively identified from the charred remains.The remains are still being forensically examined.
At the Maroubra Police Station, a 33-year-old man was taken into custody yesterday and charged with murder.
The 33-year-old allegedly had a “extensive history” with the victim, according to the police.
Many people in the Dubbo and Mudgee area are being contacted by police because they think they “know exactly what happened.”
In the event that someone has information about the purported murder, they warned that “police will be knocking on their door and making those inquiries in person.”
Following the reported shooting, police are looking into whether the 33-year-old male received assistance in getting rid of Collison’s body.
The 33-year-old man was charged with obtaining and having a gun while under a police prohibition order after being taken into custody at Sydney’s Maroubra Police Station.
Tomorrow, the man is scheduled to appear in Dubbo local court. Police stated that they had not yet located the gun that was allegedly used in the crime.
According to reports from the Sydney Morning Herald, David Collison, then 31 years old, was found guilty of the 2000 teen’s murder.
After spending more time in prison than the required 18 years, he was granted parole and given a maximum sentence of 24 years.
Superintendent Doherty stated that in this instance, opinions about Collison’s past should be set aside. “His demise was not only unsavory, but callous and in cold blood.”
