While searching for a helicopter that vanished off the coast of Nelson Bay, New South Wales, debris has been discovered.
Though they have not confirmed if the debris field is from the missing aircraft, police have located what they think to be one near Tea Gardens, north of Newcastle.
Authorities say that the search is still ongoing in “challenging” conditions as they trawl through the water near Bennetts Beach.
Police earlier stated that the helicopter took off from Cessnock at approximately 8.50am yesterday and went missing near Port Stephens.
A 54-year-old man and his dog were on board, and it was sailing towards Wallis Island near Forster.
