A “fast moving” grass fire in Penrith, on Sydney’s west side, has been extinguished by firefighters.
Massive flames could be seen burning through the foliage as the fire at Hickeys Lane pushed plumes of smoke skyward.
With the assistance of 17 trucks from the Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW was assisted by a water bombing helicopter.
Fire and Rescue NSW stated that although the fire was headed towards industrial premises on Coombes Drive, no evacuations were required and the fire is currently under control.
Inspector Matt Waldon of the NSW RFS stated that it was “moving rather fast”.
Walton declared, “There have been no injuries or lost structures.”
Thirty hectares have already been burnt by the fire, which is about 12 hectares in size.
Additionally, firefighters are fighting a fire that originated in an abandoned building in adjacent Guilford. NSW Fire and Rescue says it is looking into the matter.
