It’s already cyclone season.
Tropical Cyclone Lola has formed off the coast of Fiji, even though the formal start of the cyclone season is not until November.
Over the next 24 to 48 hours, it is anticipated to get stronger.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that although it has the capacity to strengthen into a Category 3 storm, it is not anticipated to be a tropical cyclone when it approaches Australian waters.
It is predicted to affect Vanuatu but will weaken as it approaches New Caledonia, according to forecasters.
“This system is expected to remain well offshore of the Queensland coast before it weakens later in the week,” according to the bureau.
“On Thursday or Friday, an upper low may create a surface low off the coast of northern New South Wales or southern Queensland.
“The low will combine with a strong ridge from a very strong high south of Australia to produce a strong and cool southeasterly wind change over most of Queensland towards the end of the week.”
