To honor the ten individuals who lost their lives in the June NSW Hunter Valley wedding bus accident, hundreds of people have gathered.
A public memorial service was held at Singleton Showground on Saturday by the state government to honor the lives of the deceased and the several survivors of the tragedy.
As they bid farewell to one another, friends and family told the assembly stories of their departed loved ones.
The individuals who perished in the collision were Andrew and Lynan Scott, Tori Cowburn, Zachary Bray, Angus Craig, Rebecca Mullen, Darcy Bulman, Nadene and Kyah McBride, and Andrew Symons.
Zachary’s mother, Jacqui Varasdi, said, “Think of them as living in the hearts of those they’ve touched because nothing loved is ever lost and they are loved so much.”
Steven Symons, Kane’s father, described his son as “a free spirit… who had a cheekiness about him and would light up a room instantly.”
“She was constantly dishing out her advice whether it was wanted like medical treatment in the hospitals or unsolicited like lecturing Sam at home for not washing his dishes,” Erin Mullen, Rebecca’s sister, said.
Angus’ mother Tobi Craig said, “While we grieve, we take comfort in the knowledge that when we close our eyes, we can picture your huge goofy smile.”
Following the disaster, first responders who tried their utmost to rescue lives were honored with a procession.
In the days that followed the crash, the families expressed their sincere gratitude to the caregivers.
“You were there for us when Darcy was finally permitted to be with us. We will always hold you in our hearts, Darcy’s father Warren Bulman remarked.
To date, about $1.5 million has been raised for the survivors and relatives of the victims as they proceed.
Helen Arthur, Nadene’s sister, remarked, “It gives us comfort to think that their last day on this earth was spent happy and having a wonderful time celebrating.”
“You were one of a kind my Tori girl, that was always clear to see… but most of all my precious one you were the special part of me,” Kay Welsh, Tori’s mother, stated.
Saying farewell for the last time and sharing priceless memories were possible throughout the service.
“Without question they’ll make me smile, I’ll occasionally shed a tear but it will constantly be a reminder to love and live each day to the fullest,” Warren Bulman stated.
