Large blaze at Byron Bay is still being fought by firefighters as astonished beachgoers post pictures of the famed area’s black smoke pouring into the sky.
Between Bayshore Drive, Black Rock Road, and Ewingsdale Road, the fire has been consuming 272 hectares of coastal forest north of Byron Bay since it first broke out on Saturday afternoon.
The NSW Rural Service reported that the fire was “being controlled” in a fire alert.
Despite the fact that the fire conditions have improved today, the RFS has cautioned locals to continue keeping an eye on the situation because stronger winds may cause the fire to behave differently during the day.
Large portions of New South Wales are under a complete fire ban as a result of the significant fire threat brought on by the hot, dry, and windy weather.
The Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter, Far North Coast, North Western, Northern Slopes, and New England regions are all included in the current fire restriction.
