In a “very rare” and “tragic” incident in Tasmania, a 66-year-old man lost his life after being attacked by his own dog at home.
On Sunday around 10.40 p.m., police were called to a residence in the remote community of Allens Rivulet, close to Hobart.
According to the police, the dog bit the 64-year-old woman and the guy.
After suffering severe lower limb injuries, the man passed away.
The woman was taken to the hospital in a hurry, and her status is stable.
According to Inspector Colin Riley of the Tasmanian Police, the guy was declared deceased at the residence.
“The woman was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries to her lower limbs,” Riley stated.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.”
It was a “very rare” incidence, he continued. “Obviously this is a family that had a loved pet and unfortunately that animal has turned on them and it’s had tragic outcomes,” Riley stated.
After hearing a disturbance, a neighbour alerted the police, which dispatched five officers, an ambulance, and two Kingborough Council animal control officers to the scene.
Police refused to disclose the breed but said they will look into what happened before the dog attacked.According to the cops, there are two more dogs living there.
The council claims that at least one is of the same breed. An animal management officer put the dog to death there and then.
Gary Arnold, the general manager of Kingborough Council, called it “the most tragic incident” to have occurred during his ten years there. The participating council officers, he claimed, are “a little shaken.”
The dog did not appear to be registered with the municipality, as is recommended for owners, according to Arnold. The coroner would receive a report, according to the police.
