Five pedestrians who were allegedly struck by a car overnight in Sydney’s Inner West have been taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
On Burwood Road in Burwood, about 12.25 in the morning, a P-plate Ford Ranger struck a Toyota Camry that was parked before climbing the sidewalk and striking five pedestrians and another vehicle that was also parked.
When the collision occurred, the Camry, which was being utilised as a rideshare vehicle, was taking a fare, according to authorities.
The pedestrians were being attended to by paramedics because they had suffered major head, limb, and chest injuries.
The Camry’s occupants also received treatment there before being transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
The Ranger’s 19-year-old driver, who only had a temporary licence, was detained and transported to Burwood Police Station.
The adolescent informed authorities that he lost control of the vehicle after going into a blackout while driving.
He was questioned all night at the police station before being let go pending more enquiries.
