An e-bike crash in the eastern suburbs of Sydney has left a member of the Royal Australian Navy fighting for his or her life.
Wade Franks, a sailor, is thought to have been riding back to the Navy’s training academy after going out with buddies when he lost control.
Around 1.30am on Sunday, the 28-year-old got off a Lime e-bike around an Old South Head Road corner that was both steep and twisty.
In order to assist, Sandy Monkhouse, a nurse, and her husband Brian did so.The loud noise was heard, Mr. Monkhouse said.
“It made a scraping sound. The two of us just ran down because there was simply somebody lying in the middle of the road, and I thought, Oh my God, that’s a person.
Before the couple heard a voice, the setting was strangely quiet as paramedics provided assistance.
“Hello, hello,” I could hear, Mr. Monkhouse said. At first, I assumed it was someone calling out, but his phone was on the handlebar.
Franks, who was returning to HMAS Watson after a night out, was reportedly on the phone with a young woman.
He was sort of slipping in and out of consciousness and very, very clammy and chilly, according to Mrs. Monkhouse.
A planned and impressive reaction was made by paramedics with the Toll rescue helicopter on alert.
The 28-year-old was rushed to St. Vincent’s hospital, where his condition is still critical.
In a statement, the ride-sharing firm expressed its “deep sadness” over the tragedy.
A firm spokeswoman expressed, “Our sympathies are with the rider and the rider’s family during this trying moment.”We are awaiting more details from the police.
“We are aware that 99.9% of our rides worldwide end without any issues being recorded.
“Our commitment to safety is unwavering, and we will keep in constant contact with our riders to promote safe riding, helmet use, and appropriate parking in all of our operating locations,” the company stated.
