In Sydney’s inner city, police shot a guy they said brandished a knife at them.
Around 4.40 pm on Sunday, the 32-year-old allegedly challenged authorities who had been sent to Chisholm Street in Darlinghurst for a welfare check.
Before a policeman fired their gun, “the man allegedly approached officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics while armed,” according to a statement from NSW Police.
Before being sent to St. Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition, the man received treatment on the scene.
As police investigate the crime site, a number of streets have been shut off.
Police announced that an independent review would be conducted after the incident was investigated by a critical incident team from a separate police area command.
One person remarked, “I just heard like a loud blast and a couple shouts and that was about it. “I assumed it was a loud automobile engine.”
