A Sydney council is planning to discuss an Aboriginal Land Claim request for a famous plot of land that is reportedly worth $100 million in private.
Tuesday night’s meeting of Mosman Council is scheduled to examine a “confidential” Aboriginal Land Claim for the region.
The meeting should be closed to the press and public, according to the agenda, “for that part necessary to consider information concerning the nature and location of a place or an item of Aboriginal significance on community land.”
Exclusive information on the Balmoral Beach-related covert land request was provided by Chris O’Keefe of 2GB.
The 4000-square-meter parcel of land in question is behind the Esplanade and is situated across from the playground at Balmoral Beach and the Boathouse restaurant.
The Balmoral Tramway cutting located in a patch of grass and forest between Botanic Road and Plunkett Road, according to O’Keefe.
According to two real estate brokers O’Keefe talked with, the value of the land would be at least $100 million.
Uncertainty surrounds the Aboriginal Land Claim’s potential effects on the parcel of land, including whether it would be developed or retained as a piece of First Nations heritage.
